In these situations, people are being egoic they are highly self-absorbed, and their reactions are all about them. They are thinking consciously about what they want, what they are doing, who they are, what other people think about them, and how things are going for them. Much of the time, people’s thoughts, motives, emotions, and behaviors are infused with themselves, with their I. An egoic reaction is one in which I am centrally involved. According to Freuds psychoanalytic theory, the id is the primitive and instinctual part of the mind that contains sexual and aggressive drives and hidden. The three agents are theoretical constructs that describe the activities and interactions of the mental life of a person. Egoic simply means “pertaining to ego” or “pertaining to I.” Egoic thoughts, motives, emotions, and behaviors are reactions in which I, me, and mine take center stage. Sigmund Freud shows that the human behavior is controlled by three categories in the brain called the id, ego, and superego. The id, ego, and super-ego are a set of three concepts in psychoanalytic theory describing distinct, interacting agents in the psychic apparatus (defined in Sigmund Freud 's structural model of the psyche ). It is the decision-making component of personality. The ego is rational and oriented toward problem solving. The ego develops in order to mediate between the unrealistic id and the external real world. It works to suppress all unacceptable urges of the id and struggles to make the ego act upon idealistic standards rather that upon realistic principles. The ego is the mediator between our sometimes unrealistic id and our over-idealistic superego. The ego engages in secondary-process thinking, which is relatively rational, realistic, and oriented toward problem solving. The superego tries to perfect and civilize our behavior. Perhaps the broadest ego-based term, egoic, is also the least common, although it is coming into vogue. The ego ideal includes the rules and standards for behaviors that the ego aspires to. Thousands of studies show that people are biased to view themselves too positively.
Just as we are all egoistic and egocentric, we also tend to be egotistical as well.
Egotism involves evaluating oneself more favorably than is objectively warranted. Egotism is another common ego-word in psychology.
